People think of the Indian Ocean islands as small corners of Paradise, with wonderful sandy beaches and beautiful lagoons. Reunion is a different kind of Paradise, which will delight both outdoor enthusiasts as well as those who enjoy discovering somewhere different. There is an active volcano and vast craters that testify to former volcanoes. There are cliffs, gushing waterfalls and tropical forest, with a rugged beauty that visitors fall in love with.
Reunion lies close to Mauritius and is something of an enigma, with villages tucked away on the slopes of steep craters, an almost lunar landscape near the “Furnace”, the active volcano, and waterfalls tumbling from on high. The island has high inland mountains and it is a great place for more extreme sports like river rafting and paragliding, as well as for walking and trekking or spending a night in a mountain refuge.
Of course, guests can also just relax under the shade of a palmtree, sipping the local rum, or strolling around charming local villages. As well as the sheer beauty of the island, visitors can also experience a local culture that is quite different, influenced by the European, African and Asian origins of the people.
